In the early morning light of mid-October, a Great Blue Heron stands still at the edge of a serene, marshy pool in Harold Parker State Forest. The autumn colors of the surrounding grasses, ranging from flaxen gold to fiery reddish-orange, glow brightly under the sunlight. The heronās majestic reflection mirrors perfectly in the still water, with only a single stalk of golden grass disrupting the glass-like surface.
