This allows the landscape to be lit with the receding sunlight so the Moon is not so bright in comparison to the landscape in the foreground that you can get good detail in both. One night each month to hit it just right. Tonight I was over in Marblehead looking across at Marblehead Lighthouse. trying to position myself so that the moon is directly behind the Lighthouse. Many of the images of Chandler Hoovey park where Marblehead's lighthouse sits, were favorites. I was able to capture both detail and the yellow color of the moon as it is seen through the thicker atmosphere. As it rises it will be seen through thinner atmosphere and all color will return to its customary white.
