Description
The Saugus fall colors at low tide. One wouldn't think the ocean tides would affect the hight of a river inland but it does. In fact small boats like this would be loaded with pig Iron or iron products made in the smithy and when the ocean tides were high it would back up the river causing it to rise and then men would paddle these boats down to the coast a few miles away and unload them onto the waiting ships in the harbor. The Iron products would be sent up and down the coast or be sent overseas to be traded.
