Schooner Fame sailing past Salem harbor and Fort Pickering Lighthouse. Salem Harbor was protected during the Revolutionary war from attack by Fort Pickering on one side and Fort Sewall on the other side. Needless to say no British warships wanted to brave the long reach of the canons mounted at either fort. This resulted in both Marblehead and Salem Harbors never being taken by the British.
